Social interaction on the E-Learning and Digital Cultures course is actively encouraged in spaces outside the Coursera platform. Students can submit their own blog posts for aggregation on the EDC MOOC blog or can contribute via the #edcmooc hashtag on Twitter.
We archived the Twitter stream for the second iteration of the course, so that we can better quantify the social activity taking place. The first graph below shows the volume of activity over the duration of the second iteration of the course. The following 3 graphs are snapshots which illustrating the growth of the course community over time. A significant core of social activity developed, clustered largely around the Community Teaching Assistants on the course.
